The hotel-floor scramble is a planning problem

You overpack because each item is a maybe. The blue shirt might go with the trousers. The extra dress might be for the dinner that might happen. None of those are outfits. They are open loops. Capsule packing closes the loop before you leave.

Build the capsule backwards from the days

1. Write the days as jobs. Flight, client, dinner, museum, travel home.
2. Attach weather to each day. High, low, rain.
3. Assign one outfit per job from clothes you own and have actually worn together.
4. Reuse bottoms. New tops if you must. Shoes: one walking pair, one if the dinner demands it.
5. Lay the unique pieces on the bed. If it does not fit in the bag, you still have maybes. Cut a look, not a random sock.

What travel wardrobe apps get wrong
